SUMMER SCHOOL PLUS Spring 2012 Saturday/Sunday 3/4 March 9:30am - 4:30pm

'Traditional Japanese Woodblock Printing' with Laura Boswell.

Saturday/Sunday 3/4th March This course teaches Japanese water based woodblock printmaking. It is an intense course taking you from designing your image through the techniques of registration and woodcut to the uniquely painterly printing method using watercolour and rice paste. Since no press is required, you can continue to enjoy printing at home. You will learn how to work with traditional tools using modern lime plywood and will leave with prints, your blocks and a full fact sheet covering all aspects of the course. Basic watercolours are provided, but you may prefer to bring your own. There will also be starter kits for sale for those who fall in love with the technique. All tools and materials are supplied for £22.90, this includes one lime ply woodblock.

Laura is a printmaker who explores her love of rural landscape through linocut and water based woodblock printing. Selected as the British artist in 2009, she spent eight weeks in Japan learning how to master Japanese woodblock. She is currently exploring the technique, working with it in combination with lino cut and exploring different timbers.
