'Sumptuous Surfaces on Felt'
with Sheila Smith.

Monday 26th to Thursday 29th

Felt making is a versatile process which allows wool fibres to combine with other non-felting fibres and fabrics to produce unusual effects. Use different techniques to create interesting surfaces on felt such as luxurious lustre with silk, or texture with jute and flax. Build up layers within the felt to give depth and richness. The resulting fabrics can be used for both decorative and functional purposes. First explore the possibilities and produce a swatch of fabric samples as a reference point for the future then put your findings into practice and create your own unique fabric for stitch or designer fashion accessories.
Sumptuous Felt SHEILA SMITH has been fascinated with the process of making felt for over twenty years & is particularly interested in creating different effects within the felt and on the surface. She originally trained as a teacher of textiles and now teaches felt-making courses all over the UK & abroad. She has written extensively and her popular books Felt to Stitch and Embellish, Stitch, Felt, have been produced by Batsford Publishers.
