'Paper Marbling'
with Christopher Rowlatt.

Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th

Come & enjoy colour and creativity with an ancient form of printing, it’s not a difficult or messy craft/art. The marbling course covers recipes, methods, materials, mayhem (no, not really) and plenty of printing time to produce. The first morning will introduce the story of marbling through the ages with original examples of marbles followed by instruction as to how to get started including recipes for sizes and inks. Safety aspects will be covered before commencing on 5 Samplers. These will introduce the skills required for good and efficient print making. If time allows on the first day, students can begin experimentation on their own. The second day is for development of students’ own ideas and styles.

Calligraphy CHRISTOPHER ROWLATT has been bookbinding since 1976 and marbling since 1977. A qualified teacher since 1972 and working full time in his successful paper marbling and conservation bookbinding business since 1990, has given him skills he wishes to pass on. He teaches at West Dean & other colleges. His conservation bookbinding is in great demand by individuals as well as Archives and Conservators. He exhibits widely in the UK and is a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.
