SUMMER SCHOOL 26th July-31st July 2010

'Instrumental Jazz Workshop' with Thomas L'Etienne.

Monday 26th to Friday 30th 9:30am - 4:30pm This Master Workshop runs separately from the Vocal Workshop but also culminates with a public concert in the evening of Friday 30 July. All instruments, for all ages who can read music or play fluently, are welcome. Apart from instrumental tips and instructions, the week will concentrate mainly on the ensemble aspect of jazz music. Outside of their practising hours at home, jazz musicians will always have to apply their ideas and improvisational skills as part of a larger ensemble. The ability to react to other musicians & at the same time influence/ inspire the rest of the group is of greatest importance. A major aim of the course is to help the students to further develop their ability to play together and look at the evolution of jazz ensemble playing. There will also be the opportunity for individual improvisational playing.

THOMAS L’ETIENNE’s Summer School Workshop has gradually grown in popularity over the past 14 years & has a regular following. Thomas is at home playing mainstream, bop, R&B, blues, gospel and swing with great jazz veterans such as Kid Thomas, Emanuel Sayles, Jeanette Kimball, Danny Barker and Frank Fields. He plays frequently in Germany & Denmark as well as being a regular visitor to the UK. Thomas will be assisted by a member of his band.

Course Cost for 5 days £175. Non Refundable Deposit £50.
