SUMMER SCHOOL
26th July-31st July 2010

'Garden Design'
with Rod Mantell.

Monday 26th to Friday 30th

Have you been meaning to get round to making changes to your garden but have not been quite sure how to go about it? This course may be the answer. No previous knowledge of garden design is assumed and you will be led gently through the process. Studying existing designs, carrying out design exercises and visiting two well-planned gardens will help to provide inspiration. During the week you will be given one-to-one help to come up with a satisfying design for all or part of your own garden. At the end of the week we will consider what plants to use and where to get them from. The aim is that you will leave with a practical design to implement in your garden at your leisure. We will spend time on how to approach design; drawing techniques; simple surveying; styles of garden design; learning from existing designs; designing and drawing plans for your chosen garden – hard and soft landscaping; plant selection and sourcing. One day will be spent visiting two gardens, which may incur a small additional cost.
Garden Design ROD MANTELL studied Garden Design with the Open College of Arts for two years to advanced level.
