'Colour, The Fundamentals - A Painting Workshop' with Jane Strother.

Monday 26th to Friday 30th Identify the three fundamental parts of colour, hue, saturation and value and learn how to manipulate them, to increase your sensitivity to colour. We will start on exercises and studies from still life, and using acrylic paints, will focus primarily on the mutual interplay between colours, later developing an ‘in depth’ piece, from still life and/or landscape sketches and photos. The aim is to enjoy the process of making the decisions, the research and the unpicking as well as the building of ideas. You will need to bring acrylic paints and other materials, a list of which will be provided after booking.

JANE STROTHER studied painting at Bath Academy of Art and has worked as a painter, illustrator, printmaker and teacher. Today, she is based in her studio in Oxford, interested in the ever-changing effect of light and weather on the colour of landscape, drawn from an association with a place over time. Working from observation and from memory, gestural marks and layered application of paint echo images found and returned to. 'www.artweeks.org'
