Monday to Saturday
Ply-Splitting is a versatile technique that may be used to make colourful and unusual textile
jewellery and accessories, including necklaces, bangles, earrings belts & bags. Following an introduction
to the origins of the technique, you will learn some of the basic methods of ply-splitting that have
been used traditionally to make camel girths and animal harnesses. Using cotton or linen cords you
will develop a repertoire of fundamental methods and shapes and then, making your own twisted cords,
you will work on a project of your choice. The importance of colour, yarn selection and cord making
will be emphasised in designing.
The course is suitable for both beginners & those with some previous knowledge of ply-splitting.
