'Paper Marbling'
with Christopher Rowlatt.

Monday and Tuesday

Come & enjoy colour & creativity with an ancient form of printing, it’s not a difficult or messy craft/art. The marbling course covers recipes, methods, materials, mayhem (no not really) & plenty of printing time to produce. The first morning will introduce the story of marbling through the ages with original examples of marbles followed by instruction as to how to get started including recipes for sizes & inks. Safety aspects will be covered before commencing on 5 Samplers. These will introduce the skills required for good & efficient print making. If time allows on the first day, students can begin experimentation on their own. The second day is for a development day of student’s own ideas & styles.
CHRISTOPHER ROWLATT has been bookbinding since 1976 & marbling since 1977 and working full time in his successful paper marbling & conservation bookbinding business since 1990, has given him skills he wishes to pass on. He teaches at West Dean & other Colleges – his travelling workshop enables him to teach virtually anywhere given the space. His conservation bookbinding is in great demand by individuals as well as Archives & Conservators. He exhibits in the UK & is a member of the Gloustershire Guild of Craftsmen.
This 'Paper Marbling' course is a good warm-up for, but is not essential for
