Monday to Saturday
Explore the creative possibilities of feltmaking in mixed media textiles. The
course will include dry felting techniques with a hand held felting needle; quick and
easy wet felting techniques incorporated into fabric design (less energy required than
for traditional felting!); use of the new needle punch embellisher machines to add
interest and texture to fabric design. We will begin by experimenting with the different
techniques and as the course progresses students will design, plan and make their
own innovative fabric for a project of their own choice. The course is suitable for all
levels of experience.

SHEILA SMITH has been
fascinated with the process of
making felt for over twenty years &
is particularly interested in creating
different effects within the felt & on
the surface. She originally trained as
a teacher of textiles & now teaches
felt-making courses all over the UK
& abroad. She has written extensively
& her book ‘Felt to Stitch’ is a best
seller. Her latest book ‘Felt Embellished’,
also to be published by Batsford, will
be available in September 2008.
