Monday to Saturday
Design & make your own simple mechanical marvels. All ages & abilities
are welcome to join the group. The opening session will give you a small, simple
mechanical novelty to make to get things underway. All week a collection of
mechanical models will be available to help inspire you. Each day a few minutes will be
used to introduce one or two mechanisms through video & by examples. Rod will
devote most of the time to helping you design & make mechanical toys or models
of your own. A variety of basic materials will be made available & you are
encouraged to bring along some of your own where more specific or exotic things
are needed.

ROD MANTELL sees the enjoyment in his models coming
equally from the creative process of designing & making the models & in
the smile they raise on the faces of ‘children’ of all ages as they turn the
handle to see what happens! He has a science background & was the
Head of Design & Technology in an Oxfordshire secondary school for
many years. He has worked with Robert Race & has exhibited
automata in a major summer exhibition in Bath as well as some local galleries.
